Regular Classes, Intensive Sessions, Workshops & Programs

Below you will find a general description for all the classes, intensives, workshops and programs the the Studio offers.

A Regular Classes consist of Bellydancing for Seniors, Beginner Level, Intermediate Level 1 & Level 2 as well as Advanced/Troupe Level classes. Intensive Sessions consists of Technique, Choreography, Style, Practice & Study Classes. The Workshops & Program cover a variety of subject matter.

All classes are offered at various levels and prerequisites may be required.

Bellydancing for Seniors Classes:
Studio Sephira offers 2 Bellydancing for Seniors classes thru the 'Moncton Activities for Senior's' program. These ongoing classes are the perfect introduction the non-dancer - no prior dance experience required - as well as for women who have previously taken dance classes. The Tuesday morning class runs from10:30-11:30am at Crossman Community Centre / Kay Arena located at 99 Wynwood Dr and the Wednesday morning class runs from 10:45-11:45am at the Moncton Lions Community Centre located at 473 St. George St. Students can try out the first class for free and must contact Pat Layden at monctonlions@nb.aibn.com or by phone at 382-8560 to purchase a member ship as well as a punch pass in order to drop-in to any subsequent classes they wish to take.

➢ Learn some of the history, key concepts and basic moves of Bellydance

Regular Beginner Classes:
Studio Sephira offers several beginner level classes a season. These 14 week classes are the perfect introduction to bellydance for the non-dancer - no prior dance experience required - as well as for women who have previously taken bellydance classes or classes in other dance styles. At the beginner level we have fun together learning the key concepts and basic moves of the dance. Each week we will experience full warm up & cool down exercise and in between we will learn different isolations & steps until we are ready to start using them in a short choreography & improvisation exercises. At this level, props such as zills (finger cymbals) and veil are also introduced and some historical & cultural information about the art form is shared. The cost of a 14 week session is $175 +hst. Former Studio Sephira students returning to class receive 50% off the cost of the beginner level class!! New students joining in groups of 2-5 also receives discounts! Unless otherwise indicated, the minimum number of students required to offer this class is 6 and the maximum capacity in this Intensive is 20 students.

Intermediate Level 1:
In the Intermediate Level 1 classes a student continuously builds on her movement vocabulary, develops her skills in veil & finger cymbal work and gently learns how to perform improvisational and choreographed dance. Note that once a student has completed her first intermediate level class she can book a special 1hr private session with Barb, at no cost, in order to asses where she is at in her personal dance journey. A student new to bellydancing must complete the beginner level class and a student with previous experience in the dance who wishes to move directly into the Intermediate Level 1 class must make arrangements with the Studio. The cost for the 7 week sessions is $102 +hst. If a students takes 2 Intermediate Level 1 classes a week they receive $15 off the price of the 2nd class, if they take 3 Intermediate Level 1 classes a week they receive $25 off the price of the 3rd class. Drop-in cards also available upon request. Unless otherwise indicated, the minimum number of students required to offer this class is 4 and the maximum capacity in this Intensive is 14 students.

Intermediate Level 2:
In the Intermedaite Level 2 class a student continues to build on her movement vocabulary and her ability to dance with props, deepens her skills with improvisational and choreographed dance and further develops her performances skill. Intermediate Level 2 students will be invited to perform as various events and is expected to have a minimum of 3 complete, performance quality, costumes in order to participate. To remain in this class, a student must perform at a minimum 1 event over a period of one and a half years.

While registered in the Intermediate Level 2 class, students must also attend either a minimum of one Intermediate Level 1 class during the week or any combination of one Intensive as well as one Style class during the week. Additionally, to move up in the Intermediate Level 2 class a student must complete the following:
- a minimum of two years of regular intermediate level classes and be able to perform all level 1 class choreographies
- a minimum of approximately half a year of Turkish style classes
- 2 intermediate level choreography sessions
- 2 technique sessions covering the use of props (other than finger cymbals and rectangular veil)
- participated in a minimum of 1 year-end student show
- receive final permission from the teacher

Please note that in order to join the Intermediate Level 2 group, some student who have completed the above prerequisites may be asked to book a special 1hr private session, at no cost, in order to assess where she is at in her personal dance journey and see if she is ready for this level class.

Technique Intensives:
The 5 week Technique Intensives are designed to help students deepen their understanding of subjects taught in regular classes, introduce students to subject matter not covered in regular classes and offer advanced level subject matter. The cost of the Technique Intensives is $55 +hst as well as the cost of a prop if required. If a student re-registers for a Technique Intensive that they have already followed, they receive 30% the price. Unless otherwise indicated, the minimum number of students required to offer this class is 5 and the maximum capacity in this Intensive is 12 students.

Choreography Intensives:
The 10 week Choreography Intensives focus on learning a complete choreography that students may chose (or not) to perform at various events hosted by Studio Sephira during a season. Taking these sessions also help a student prepare for an upcoming show. The cost of the Choreography Intensive is $110+hst as well as the cost of a prop if required. If a student re-registers for a Choreography Intensive that they have already followed, they receive 30% the price. Unless otherwise indicated, the minimum number of students required to offer this class is 5 and the maximum capacity in this Intensive is 12 students.

Style Intensives:
The Style Intensives focus on learning the the history and culture as well as the movement vocabulary and expression of various styles of Bellydance such as Turkish, Egyptian, Vintage Oriental and American Tribal Style. These classes can either focus on the Style as a whole or on one aspect such as choreography, rhythms, props, freestyle, etc. The cost of the classes as well as the minimum/maximum number of students vary according to the length and subject matter covered.

Practice Intensives:
The 7 week Practice Intensives consists of 15minute (self-led) block of time where students can practice technique or work with props. The minimum number of students required to offer this class is 5 and the maximum capacity in this Intensive is 8 students. The cost of the Mini-practice Intensive is $24.50 +hst. A drop-in costs $4 +hst.

Study Intensives:
The 5 week Study Intensives uses tools to help students better integrate materials learned in various classes. Zills and Drums can be used to study Rhythm, Videos can be used to study choreography and Books can be used to study various subject matter related to the dance. The cost of the Study intensive is $55 + hst as well as the cost of the tool if required. If a student re-registers for a Study Intensive that they have already followed, they receive 30% the price. Unless otherwise indicated, the minimum number of students required to offer this class is 5 and the maximum capacity in this Intensive is 12 students.
